It has truly been the season to be jolly, to party and to stuff our faces with as many pigs in blankets as possible amirite!
*Our health and skin can take a real knock with the cold, dry weather stripping our skin of its natural oils and goodness; plus all the partying and endless Christmassy temptations don’t really help. Most of us are probably suffering with dryer, more dehydrated skin than usual, I know I am, and I know all too well that if your skins not great, you don’t feel too great.
Anyhow my skin has been crying out desperately for some attention lately, and so I’m going to give her a pamper. Having flaky, dull skin is definitely not glam when you want to feel fresh and motivated because it’s new year new you and all that jazz x.
I wanted to share 5 simple tips, in no particular order of importance, to get yourself glowing again in the New Year!
- The first thing you should consider, before applying all sorts of products that you may not even need, is to DRINK MORE WATER!! I cannot stress this enough!

I am very inspired and thankful to be nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award which is given to bloggers by bloggers for their positive and creative contribution to the blogging community. I was nominated by Amanda, please take a look at Daydreams and Cynicism, this girl is a true gem of the web and provides a lot of support to bloggers and mental health.
The rules of the Sunshine Blogger Award are as follow:
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.
2. Answer the eleven questions the blogger asked you.
3. Nominate eleven new blogs to receive the award and write them eleven new questions.
4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or in your blog.
These are my answers to Manda’s Questions:
- Why did you choose your blog name?
I chose my blog name Shannon Cora as it is my birth name, and my username on Instagram when I created my account many moons ago. My inspiration for starting up a blog came a couple of years ago, however I didn’t have much of a vision or time whilst studying my A-Levels. I wanted a simple blog name, which represented me well, and would be a platform for me to build upon and gain experience as a blogger, and for future career aspirations.
- Who is your favourite musical artist/band?
My favourite artist/band changes often, I’ll have to say Halsey, as I mostly listen to her at the minute, I cannot get enough of Bad In Love, or the Him & I collab with G-Eazy, they’re top on my shower playlist.
- What is your favourite place you’ve visited?
My favourite place that I have visited is a truly difficult one too, I would have to say the Bahamas (Atlantis and CocoCay specifically), they are true paradises with unreal scenery, weather and people, as well as typical touristy attractions for the grumpy Brit. I have been lucky enough to travel throughout my life, but I definitely have a lot more travelling to do! There are so many beautiful places to visit with different atmospheres and I want to experience them all, any suggestions would be appreciated!
- What are your goals for 2018?
My goals for 2018 are to achieve a 1st by the end of second year of uni, and hit the ground running when I relocate to start my placement year in industry (of which I will be writing more about in summer). By the end of 2018 I want to have a clearer idea of my career direction once I graduate in 2020, and have built up my social media content and presence around my role of a fitness ambassador for Wake Nutrition and Just Strong Clothing. I want to have collaborated with companies to produce excellent quality, relevant content which I can upload to my blog and inspire people. Finally I want to feel more confident in myself, and my blog – and get it looking snazzy!
- What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to become a fitness model, entrepreneur and influencer in the health and fitness industry.
- How do you stay positive?
Not gonna lie it’s difficult sometimes…
I like to take a step back and think about what the issue at hand is – what steps can I take to progress/make things better to lessen my worrying. If there is nothing I can do to improve the situation, then let go and focus my energy on other things.
I remind myself of the following quote, which I have seen plastered all over social media, I’m unsure of who created it, but man is it useful and boy do I commend the creator!
“If it’s not going to matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes thinking about it”
- Do you have an evening routine? If yes, what is it?
Gym, shower, cook, TV/netflix whilst blogging and online shopping, and occasionally tutor online. Finally, put my hair in rollers, do my skin care regime, and prepare for my next day.
- What’s your go-to drink on a cold day?
- What’s your earliest memory?
Playing with my toys in our apartment back in the US, and watching our neighbour go to school on one of those traditional yellow American school buses.
- What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I like that it’s my space to document things that I find significant, it’s a platform for my personal development and career growth. I can write about anything and everything – somewhere for me to collect my thoughts and document my progression. I also love the community that comes with blogging, it’s very supportive and encouraging.
- What do you like most about where you live?
I love living in Newcastle whilst I’m at uni, it’s such a compact city, the nightlife caters to all, and the people are real friendly. The city is vibrant, and always buzzing, there’s so much to do that I always seem to be out partying, shopping or eating AND I LOVE IT! Where I’m situated use to be a very classy area – all the houses are old but magnificent, with so much history!

Now for my Questions…
- What is the inspiration for your blogging niche?
- If money wasn’t an issue what would you be doing?
- What are your hobbies?
- What are your near-future goals?
- Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
- What can you not live without?
- What are your main values in life?
- Who inspires you/motivates you?
- What would you write in your “day in the life of…” blog?
- What niche types of blogs/social media accounts are you looking to follow?
- Tea or Coffee?

Hey you, it’s great that you have found yourself on my site!
This is my first ever blog post, so it’s just a lil’ introduction to myself and the direction I would like to go with my blog.
Throughout my journey I will be focusing on health, skin care, well-being, and motivation, all of which are important to me, and I hope to help you maintain an empowered, healthy you, so you can look and feel like your fabulous self!
All my life, I have suffered with issues involving my skin, from eczema to acne – you name the product, I have probably tried it. I know how confidence diminishing it can be so I want to use this place to collect my thoughts, document my experiences, and hopefully provide you with useful lifestyle advice.
That’s all for now my lovelies, I’m going to throw on my pj’s, cosy up with a hot chocolate, and watch a film – my next post will be up soon.
